I really do appreciate those who comment/respond to my ramblings. Of course it is family so far but perhaps others will find their way and we can broaden our perspectives and understandings a 'wee' bit. The recovery from injury is coming along slowly but surely although the PA called today to see how things were going and to let me know that after the reading of the xrays, it was noted that I have a lot of 'old Arthur' in that joint so full recovery is a bit 'iffy'. We'll lay that in His hands too, though. None of this news dampens my spirit or lessens my desire to be of service to Him in a greater and greater way. I've begun to contemplate how periodic short-term mission trips could be managed financially. I really dislike asking folks for donations :( [Know what I mean?]. I have pondered the 'why' of going to Scotland, Ireland, N.Ireland and England rather than to, say, Africa or Asia, etc. In reality, even though those places have needs, they are more than likely to be Christian than Europe and the British Isles. Couple that with personal heritage and history and I think it's a logical choice. Besides, they do speak English which I can get by in quite handily. Much prayer desired and requested, please.

My first official entry to my blog! Today I was contemplating retirement! Yes, I know, not what some would think of me, but I was actually dreaming of a good book (Lewis, perhaps) and a cup of tea (Irish or Scottish, of course), a walk in the gentle soft rain of Scotland or Ireland or even England, followed by some stimulating conversation regarding the things of the Lord and what is next for me/us. Thus the title, 'next things.'
IF I had it to do, I'd be in full-time missions, preferably in Scotland where the weather and I would get along famously. I'd work with a local mission in the area of Sterling and perhaps some in the Highlands, too. I do hope I haven't missed it, the opportunity to work in ministry every day instead of pulling a 9-5 in the company of 'ancient' and worthless artifacts. (Not much chance to witness to the pottery, basketry and feathers, right?)
I'm not depressed---that doesn't even sound like me---but a bit frustrated with the injury to my shoulder (hopefully not permanent) and a real lack of direction/purpose. Would appreciate your prayer on my behalf and I'll return the favor.
Ro!!
